Strong protest of the Muslim world over the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden
Right-wing extremists burned pages of the Koran during a demonstration in Stockholm against Turkey for opposing Sweden's accession to NATO, which has drawn intense grief and anger from the Muslim world.
According to the World News Agency, right-wing hardline leader Rasmus Ploden in Sweden burned the Holy Quran and the Turkish flag in a demonstration in front of the Turkish embassy.
The demonstration was being held against Turkey's opposition to Sweden's request to join NATO. Relations between Turkey and Sweden are already strained over the issue.
The Turkish Foreign Minister strongly condemned this unholy act and said that under the guise of freedom of expression, we condemn in the strongest terms the heinous attack on our holy book. It is unacceptable to insult our sacred values and allow anti-Islamic acts.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also canceled his visit to Sweden. Saudi Arabia also strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Similarly, Iran and Iraq have summoned Swedish diplomats on this issue and registered a strong protest. Other Arab countries including Jordan and Kuwait also condemned the burning of the Holy Quran.
In the statement released by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, it has been said that this is not freedom of expression. This act based on Islamophobia has hurt the sentiments of 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide
To the outrage of the Muslim world, Sweden's Foreign Minister Tobias Bullström issued a statement saying that Islamophobic incitement is terrifying. There is freedom of expression in the country but that does not mean that the Swedish government, or I, support such a move.
It should be noted that the controversial leader of Denmark's far-right political party, Rasmus Ploden, has committed the act of burning the Holy Quran before.
