Highly venomous 'jellyfish' with 24 eyes discovered
Hong Kong: Scientists have confirmed the discovery of a new jellyfish that has 24 light-sensing organs called eyes.
This creature was kept in a pond in Hong Kong which had not been seen before. However, this creature from the box jellyfish family has three long whiskers and a transparent body less than an inch long.
The total number of eyes in this fish is twelve, which are divided into four pairs of six. Each eye has as it were a sensory pit which we can call an eye and it is called 'rupellium' in the language of science.
But the most important thing is that it is very poisonous and its tentacles or fibers hide poisonous substances. It looks square in appearance and hence the name box jellyfish.
For a total of three years, the Baptist University in Hong Kong observed this fish which is found in salt water ponds. It is seen in Mai Po Nature Reserve. After three years of careful study of its DNA and other organs, experts have declared it a completely new species.
