LAHORE: Pakistan Super League (PSL) had to call for additional reinforcements before the start of its eighth season.

In the PSL, replacement drafts are conducted to fill the void of fully or partially unavailable cricketers.

This stage was also decided in the draft held on the video link yesterday, Adil Rashid, who was selected in the squad of Multan Sultans, will not be able to participate in the eighth edition this year due to international engagements with the English team and rest before that. Compatriot Harry Brooke is also likely to be unavailable to Lahore Qalandars and Jason Roy to Quetta Gladiators.

It should be remembered that Brooke played some of the most important innings including a century in the last edition by showing great power hitting, he played an important role in Qalandars' title victory by scoring 264 runs.

Interestingly, Harry Brook and Adil Rashid will be available for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, the aggressive English batsman has a contract of Rs 13.25 crore and the spinner Rs 2 crore.

On the other hand, several other cricketers are partially unavailable due to international and other commitments. Multan Sultans have partially available David Miller, Aqeel Hussain and Tim David along with Adil Rashid as replacements for Wayne Parnell and young leg-spinner Izharul Haque Naveed as supplementary. Kieron Pollard and Imad Butt were chosen in the category.

Lahore Qalandars brought in Sam Billings, Kaushal Mendes and Shaun Dadswell to fill the void of Rashid Khan and Jordan Cox unavailable for the first 3 matches along with Harry Brook, Ahsan Bhatti was selected as a supplementary player.

Islamabad United team will benefit from the services of supplementary player Zafar Gohar along with Tom Curran, Timel Mills and Gus Atkinson in case of partial absence of Alex Hales, Rahmanullah Garbaz.

Quetta Gladiators selected Devin Pretorius, Will Jacks, Nawan Thishara, Supplementary Players Qais Ahmed, Saud Shakeel as replacements for Odin Smith, Jason Roy, Naveen ul Haq and Hasaranga.

Peshawar Zalmi secured a pick by taking Richard Gleeson to fill the void of Romain Powell and Mujeebur Rahman, Haris Sohail and Khurram Shahzad were made part of the squad as supplementary players.

Karachi Kings chose Ben Cutting and Musa Khan who played last season for Peshawar Zalmi as supplementary players, Tabriz Shamsi was replaced by Faisal Akram.

According to PCB's press release, Romain Powell, David Miller, Odin Smith, Aqeel Hussain and Tabriz Shamsi are likely to be unavailable to their franchises from March 8 due to the white ball series in West Indies and South Africa.

Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Jason Roy are likely to be out for the limited-overs series between England and Bangladesh from February 26 to March 14. Alex Hales will join PSL 8 from February 26, Tim David will join from March 3, Jordan Cox will be available to Lahore Qalandars from February 21, he is in Sri Lanka with England Lions.

Wanandu Hasaranga will not be available after March 3, with possible international engagements making Afghanistan's cricketers short-term availability possible.

It should be noted that the teams picked partially available players in the initial draft on the basis that they will be able to retain them for the next season, a player picked in the replacement draft cannot be re-tenured in the squad for the next season.
